Back to Glennon Doyle and her bestseller, Love Warrior.  www.motheringaddiction.com - Oct 9, 2017  Can you tell I’m a fan? If I picked a scab in Mothering Addiction, Glennon evacuated an obstructed bowel in Love Warrior. No kidding. And good for her. Glennon gets tangled up when asked repeatedly by “her village,” a simple question about the dissolution of her marriage: “What happened?”  She Continue Reading

Energy Vampires

I’m addicted to podcasts. They’re short, to-the-point and easy to access, boiling the meat of the subject matter down to the average attention span. Karen Brody’s Daring to Rest podcast, where she interviews Dr. Christiane Northrup about her new book, Dodging Energy Vampires, is a must-listen-to-immediately broadcast. Especially for women. Energy vampires do precisely what their name Continue Reading

WELCOME TO MY BLOG

In January of 1986, I held my first child and cried grateful tears for the blessings of motherhood. Like so many mothers before me, I was beginning another chapter in my life. Little did I know what lay ahead.

When I started this blog, my son was facing a lengthy jail term due to possession and distribution of a controlled substance – a felony. This felony was not his first. My son is an addict.

His addiction has fiercely impacted those who love him the most – me, his father, his sister, his stepfather, grandparents, stepbrothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

How did we get to this place? We were ambushed by an insidious disease.

I am remarried and live near Richmond, Virginia. I’m telling my story in hopes that other families will step out of the shadows, acknowledge their private pain and seek support.
